Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G Review: Best in Design, Camera Performance Averages

Oppo’s Reno 8 Pro 5G is the company’s most expensive Reno smartphone in India, which costs Rs 45,999. The phone is really good to see, but if we look at its specification, then it comes out a mid-range phone. Is Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5g served only with decoration or is it overall performance and camera for which so much price is being taken?

Realme GT NEO 3 and OnePlus 10R, this phone matches in many cases, but has the same shortcomings that are present in the rest of the rivals? I used Reno 8 Pro for several weeks and here I am going to tell everything that you should know before buying this phone.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G Price

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5g India comes in a single variant in which we get to see 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone costs Rs 45,999. It comes in two finish which includes glazed green and glazed black. I had its glazed green unit. Realme Gt Neo 3 And OnePlus 10R 5G This leads to a low starting price and offers similar specifications. But having a single variant in Reno 8 Pro 5G means that it has been launched only by premium smartphones.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G design

The design of Oppo Reno 8 Pro draws attention at first sight. It looks quite attractive compared to other smartphones of this price segment. With 7.34mm, it is not too thin but cannot be said to be fat. The phone weighs 183 grams which is surprisingly light, as its frame is made of aluminum alloy which not only looks good, but a premium feel. The rear is the glossy glass panel with the protection of Gorilla Glass 5 and it does not easily allow the fingers to fall on it.

Oppo

Its cameras show its design the most different. The lens cutouts with the camera module fit perfectly. Actually the camera module is the extension of its rear glass panel. A slight slopes are given under the module under which the first finger of my hand was set, and the phone looked quite easy to handle with one hand.
The display of the phone is flat but a light curve is given on the edges that go with the sharp corners of the frame. I have not seen so many thin bezels at this price point. There are very thin bezels on the top and bottom in the display, but more thin bezels have been given in the left and right side, which are barely 1.48mm. Due to this, the phone looks quite modern and sharp look.

This time Oppo has taken a mature step instead of incorporating the fancy design of the Reno series, such as the shark fin selfie camera and included the IP54 rating for dust and water rasistance in the phone. In this segment only Motorola Edge 30 Pro is the only smartphone that comes with almost the same IP52 rating.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G specifications and software

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G has MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max Soc, with Marisilicon X NPU for which the company says it is mainly used for support in video recording. Marisilicon X NPU is not new, it was first announced with the launch of Oppo Find X5 Pro, which was a premium smartphone, but was not launched in India.

The Reno 8 Pro does not offer the option of 5G expandable storage, but the phone has two Nano-SIM cards with dual 5G support. The phone supports dual standby and also supports stand alon and non -stand Alon 5G bands. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC. In the box you get USB Type-C to Type-A Cable, an 80W Charger and Transparent TPU case.

Oppo

Talking about software, the company has reserved certain parts of color OS for its own smartphones. The customization of the phone is the quality of which color of the wallpaper selected in it can also be selected. Also, its unique font and Oppo’s O-Haptics (Vibration System) are some things that I did not see in OnePlus 10R 5G Enduration Edition or Realme GT Neo 3 (150W).

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G’s O-HAPTICS system uses an X Axis Leanier Motor that is very accurate for feedback. It also works well when using the phone’s 3D ringtone feature. The 3D ringtone feature is also an exclusive feature of Oppa. Oppo has also provided a floating window feature so that you can open multiple apps in small floating for sharing in windows floating on screen. The Reno 8 Pro runs on 5G coloros 12.1 which is based on Android 12. The company promises two years of Android OS updates and four years of security update which is a good thing.

Oppo

One thing I did not like in it was the daily notifications from its theme app. It used to ask me to download new wallpapers or buy a new Oppo smartphone. Smartphones worth above 40 thousand rupees also had many pre-installed third party apps like Dailyhunt, Josh, Moj and PhonePe etc. But it was a good thing that many of these could have been removed. Apart from this, Oppo also had many apps like Soloop Cut, O Relax, Docvault etc. Although they were useful but they could also be removed when needed.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G performance

In the benchmark case, the phone performed as expected. The phone on AnTutu scored 901 points and 3,532 points respectively in a single and multi -core test. The software performance of the phone is also good. It gets Dimensity 8100-Max SoC with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The phone is very fast in launching multi -tasking and multiple apps. Its 120Hz refresh rate display software makes the expirals more smooth. Going with a flexible an AMOLED display was beneficial for the company, making it possible to make the bezels extremely thin.

Oppo

Its 6.7 inch FullHD Plus display is quite bright. Colors are vibrant in it and viewing angles are amazing. Comparing Realme GT NEO 3 (150W) and OnePlus 10R Enduration Edition, its display is much better. It comes with HDR10+ certification and gives pleasure to view content in apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Its stereo speakers are quite loud and also do quite clear sounds on increasing the entire volume. Their output is quite balanced.

I did not like the fingerprint scanner given in its display. For some reason it was not able to read my fingerprint. Then I found that it is a little more emphasis, then it easily identifies.

The gaming performance of the phone is quite good. Whether the camera app is used or gaming, its graphite -based cooling system did not allow the phone to heat up. Call of Duty: Mobile also ran smooth on the highest graphics settings. Asphalt: 9 Legends also walked very smooth but surprisingly it felt that 60fps mode was not found in it. The phone has a 360Hz touch sampling rate which gives quite good support in fast pace games but there is also scope for improvement.

The phone battery is not upgraded. Like Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G, it gets 4,500mAh battery and along with 80W fast charging. With the help of this charger, the phone is charged in 0 to 52 percent 15 minutes and is full charge in 34 minutes. In our HD video loop test, the phone ran 18 hours 25 minutes. In normal usage, the phone goes comfortably for one and a half days, which is a very good thing for a slim device. There is no wireless charging here, which is easily found in this segment or other smartphones of the segment below.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G camera

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G has a triple rear camera setup. It has a 50-megapixel primary camera Sony IMX766 sensor but does not have OIS support. The second camera is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and the third is a 2-megapixel macro camera. There is a 32-megapixel front camera for selfie and comes with autofocus. Oppo’s camera interface will feel well-known for users of OnePlus and Realme. The interface is very simple but for some mode advanced options can be accessed by tapping on the Illipsis button.

The pictures taken in the day-light from the main camera were quite sharp and clear with the color reproduction. The results with ultravide angle camera were very average, the dynamic range was limited, meaning details in shade places there were less details. It seemed that the macro camera was added only to fill the specs sheet, as it was not very easy to take the photo, and the focus was fix. The correct difference of AI Scene Enhancement is seen in this phone. While taking a still photo, it got a good dynamic range, especially in day light.

Selfie was sharp and details and dynamic range were quite good. Selfie portrait shots were also good but the phone was not able to expose the background very well. The image in low-light looked good, provided that there is a source of light nearby. I was hoping to improve with a 32 -megapixel selfie camera with autofocus.

The details were good when the photo was taken in auto mode from the primary camera in low-light. The lack of OIS was felt here because the camera was unable to capture the details of the donations that emerged on a surface. The dark area was getting a texture with black spots. While capturing the photo here, the phone was taking more than one to two seconds and this time was going for 3 seconds in night mode.

The camera looked very competent in capturing the details in night mode as it also captured the details that I could not even see with my eyes. The algorithm of Noise Reduction is given more aggressive, as well as the photo is not as better due to the lack of long exposure and OIS. Photos taken in many street lights came sharp but texture was also a few flats here.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G primary camera uses hardware level Dol HDR video recording with Oppo’s Marisilicon X NPU in support. This system has been claimed to be given a better dynamic range. However, my experience had a 1080P 30fps video average and lack of details. 1080p 60fps video was quite a shakey, there was a huge shortage of stabilization. The video was good on 4K 30fps. There were enough details in it and the dynamic range was also good.

After turning on the AI highlight feature, the video started running unstable frame rates and the details also decreased. Despite shooting in day-light, texture was also soft in it and noise was also seen in the dark area. The 4K video in low light was shot in the best quality when she was shot in regular mode. I found it better to keep AI Highlight closed, as this video was spoiling the quality.

Our decision

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G is obviously a premium smartphone. It is light, fashionable and you will get this premium even at a price of Rs 45,999. It is difficult to find another smartphone with such designs and build quality at this price point. Unfortunately, your hopes start to decrease in the camera department. The camera is not the best, as the price of this phone is taken.

Xiaomi 11t Pro 5G It comes here as a solid option that has better hardware and camera performance, with a good macro camera at a low price. It misses a little in the design but gives a tremendous value for money at an initial price of Rs 37,999.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G phone has gone far ahead of its old model, so now it stands shoulder to shoulder of OnePlus and Motorola. Here OnePlus 9RT 5G It is also present that gives good camera performance, Snapdragon is equipped with 888 SoC, has a 120Hz OLED panel and comes for Rs 42,999. After that Motorola Edge 30 Pro There is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, quality rear camera, 60 megapixel selfie camera, IP52 rating and Near Stock gives Android software experience.

OnePlus 10R Enduration Edition And Realme GT NEO 3 (150W) also comes at this price but fast charging is your first priority, then you can see them. Finally, Redmi K50i 5G It is priced at Rs 25,999. It is equipped with the same processor, is 144Hz display, is 5,080mAh battery, but the phone is made with tilt towards gaming.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G will like those who are fans of Oppo, want very attractive designs, want IP ratings and also want fast charging. The phone finally proves a little expensive and is not the best value for money.
