Our approach is straightforward: Our goal is to provide all types of chipsets. As you have seen, we provide various chipsets, from entry-level to mid-range and flagship. This gives our OEM partners flexibility to choose the most suitable chipset for their target audience and market. We focus on understanding the needs of the end-user and develop our chipset accordingly. We will also follow this strategy in future and will strengthen our market share by presenting advance chipsets in all categories.
In the second quarter of 2024, MediaTek led India’s smartphone with a 54 percent stake in the chipset market. After smartphone, TV, what is the new growth engine for MediaTek’s Indian market?
Although our focus is on all segments, we believe that an important market for the company will now come from the automobile sector, which includes both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Our goal is to achieve the same success in the automobile sector that we have achieved in the mobile sector. In addition, we have introduced smart digital clusters and modules in partnership with Jio Platforms Limited. In view of this, we are increasing our efforts in this area rapidly.
If the automobile sector is also changing rapidly, will the electric segment for MediaTek overtake the traditional ICE vehicles?
It is a little hurry to say this. However, this is not just an electric segment that will take forward revenue growth for MediaTek in the automobile sector, this is definitely a part, but vehicles with Ice engine are also priority for us. Whether it is two-wheelers or four-wheelers, all ice engine vehicles need advanced technology. Today, features like ADAS, AI and connectivity are in demand in the ICE segment, as well as in electric vehicles and we are committed to meeting those needs. People want their vehicles to act like a computer running, so the entire automobile sector is on our radar.
What is your opinion on 6G, how is the company ready for it and will India lead 6G rollouts worldwide?
If you listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the Indian Mobile Congress, then you will see how serious the government is about 6G. We may be left behind in 4G rollouts, but our government has done commendable work with 5G rollouts and the same is happening with 6G. I believe that 6G will take 4 to 5 years to launch and we will be one of the leading countries for its rollout in the world. MediaTek is already working on 6G and we released a white paper on 6G last year, showing our commitment to providing new technology to our consumers.
