The recently launched smartphone claims to give a lot on-paper. It also includes 50mp quad camera, 5000 mAh battery and 90Hz display. The price of the phone is Rs 10,999 and it Realme c31 (Review) and Redmi 10 prime Competition with smartphones like (review). This phone offers a lot for those who want more features in the budget segment, but is its performance equally good? Let’s find out.
Price and variants of Moto G22
Moto G22 India comes in a single variant in which the company has given 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. Officially, the price of the phone has been kept at Rs 10,999, but at my online store of Flipkart and Motorola, I have seen it listed for Rs 9,999.
Design of Moto G22
The style of the budget segment smartphone has now changed. Now more premium design and builds are seen in this segment. Talking about Moto G22, its back panel is of plastic which looks quite attractive. Especially its cosmic blue color which I had, liked it very much. The phone is also available in Iceberg Blue and Mint Green Colors, which looks quite good in the photo.
Instead of typical design with Motorola’s curved back panel, it has a flat design as we get to see in iPhone 12. There are fingers on the phone, but they are more visible when you look from a particular angle. The feel of the phone in the hand is good and the edge is not sharp, so the phone remains comfortable even when used without a protective case.

In its rear, the quad camera setup has a slightly different finish from the rest of the back panel. It has metallic culture but it looks well with the design of the entire body, at least in its black variant. The camera module is slightly out of the panel, due to which the phone is not able to remain stable when kept in the flat place.
The phone has a long display with a hole-pan cutout for the front camera. Bezel sides are quite thin but in the top porching it eats some part of the screen. Bottom chin is also a bit thick. The phone is lighter according to size and weighs 185 grams. The weight has been balanced quite well and there is no problem in using one hand.
Its power button and volume rocker are on the right side. The top has a 3.5mm headphone jack. You get USB Type C port, speaker grill and primary microphone in the bottom part. The SIM tray is in the left side of the phone, with two nano SIMs and a microSD card up to 1TB. In the box you get a protective case and Turbopower 20W Charger.
Moto G22’s specifications and software
The Moto G22 has a MediaTek Helio G37 SoC based on the 12Nm fabrication process. It is an octa -core processor clicked on 2.3GHz. Along with the img Powervr GE8320 GPU is the maximum of 680mHz. It supports the 90Hz refresh rate, which uses its 6.5 -inch HD Plus IPS LCD display well. ,
For connectivity, it has the support of dual band Wi-Fi AC, 4G LTE, GPS/A-GPS, and Bluetooth 5. The official IP rating has not been provided in the device but the company says that it has an anti -water coating, so that the phone in light splashes cannot be easily spoiled. The device has a 5,000mAh battery with a 20W charging feature.

Motorola is known for its Near Stock Android software and this also applies to Moto G22. The device comes with out of the box Android 12, which is not seen much in this price segment. The security patches of June 2022 were given in my review unit. The company promises security updates for three years for the phone.
Moto G22 gets blotware in the form of apps like Josh and Dailyhunt, but during the setup you can also prevent them from being installed. Motorola, inspired by Xiaomi and Realme, has also brought the Glance Wallpaper feature but can also be disabled with the Settings app.
I always like a clean and tidy user interface (UI) Experience and it is possible with Moto G22. Throughout the UI, you are able to easily navigate and it is very easy to find anything. Home screen and lock screen can also be customized with theme engine. This takes the theme color of widgets and app icon wallpaper which looks quite good and mixes in UI.
Motorola’s smartphones are known for their classic gestures with a karate chop action- with the help of this, flash lights can be activated. The screenshot can be taken with the help of a three finger gesture and the camera can be launched with the help of twist gesture. In Moto G22 you do not get a dedicated gallery app, so you have to use Google Photos app or you have to download another third party app.
Moto G22 performance and battery life
The Moto G22 has both fingerprint scanner and facial recognition options for phone security. The fingerprint scanner is given inside the power button, which is easy to reach. The fingerprint scanner successfully unlocked the phone every time but it was taking some time. The tectyl feedback of the phone’s buttons was good. Face recognition was never working, even if the light is full. Even after recognizing the face, the phone took several seconds to unlock.
MediaTek Helio G37 SoC is an energy efficient chip but despite the mild and thin UI of Moto G22, it was not able to handle the ordinary task well. Apps like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook were also lightly stuck. Even after setting the display on 90Hz, it could not find that smooth experience of scrolling, as I like.

Switching between multi -tasking and apps for the phone also looked like a heavy task. Many times unlocking the phone also looked like a headache as apps and widgets took a long time to appear on the home screen. During the review, the back panel of the phone also felt light hot after using basic apps like Instagram for 15 minutes.
Talking about benchmark scores, the phone scored only 114,222 points on AnTuTu. It scored 170 and 955 points respectively in the single and multi -core of Geekbench. In GFXBench’s car chasing test, the phone scored only 5.6fps and scored only 5,683 in the PCMark Work 3.0 Test. These scores were much less than average and I expected more. The Realme C31 phone found at this price brings better scores with Unisoc T612 SOC.
However, the phone is not made for gaming, yet, I tested some heavy and light games in it to detect the phone’s capacity. In this, Legends Mobile and BGMI could not even run on lower settings, which was not surprising. Call of Duty: Mobile went well on low settings. Asphalt 9: Legends locked on the performance mode and the game went well. The Moto G22 was easily handling light games such as Temple Run and Subway Surfers.
The phone does not get high resolution, but it is found as much as the rest of the devices of this price range. It has a 720×1600 pixels display. Each app was detected to have a low resolution around the corners and text of the icon. Colors look balanced on the display and watching movies and watching TV shows on it was a good experience.
There was no shift in Colors to see the content from a different angle. The display has Widevine L1 Certification but Netflix does not appear to support it. Even on Amazon Prime Video, I was able to watch the movie in 1080p resolution. There is an option to choose from saturated and natural for colors. The speaker quality of the phone is fine.

With a little gaming and streaming some movies, its battery runs a little more than a day. In our HD video loop test, the phone lasted for 20 hours and 10 minutes, which is quite impressed. It was being charged 36 percent in half an hour with the 20W Turbopower Charger found with it and 59 percent in an hour. The phone took 2 hours to fully charge.
Moto G22 camera
The phone has a quad camera setup. Moto G22’s camera module with f/1.8 aperture 50-megapixel primary camera, f/2.2 aperture an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree field of view, 2-megapixel depth camera/2-megapixel morgapixel macro camera with aperture and 2-megapixel a 2-meter camera f/2.4 Is given with aperture.
The 16 -megapixel camera in the front is available with f/2.45 aperture. The camera interface is straight and clean. All the necessary shooting modes and settings are found in you. It also has dual capture mode for photos and videos, which is also useful. Many types of filters and beauty modes have also been given. However, the camera crashed several times when using the app, especially while switching between modes in UI.
The primary camera captures 9.4 megapixel photos by default. In settings, you also get an option to select 6 megapixels or high resolution. Photos drawn from the phone looked good from above but there was a shortage of enough details when zoomed. One thing of its primary camera that I liked, that it was constantly keeping colors neutral, which gives a lot of scope to use in editing.

The main camera was cropping the photo as much as my choice. The details in the photo with the ultra wide angle camera reduced significantly and cool tone started appearing in the image. However, the distortion at the edges was very low, which is a good thing.
Macro photos remained average as it was lacking in details due to a low resolution lens. Portrait shots looked good and could quickly lock the phone focus. The camera app also gives you the option to choose the blur level before shooting.

The main camera of the phone took average photos in low light. Most of the photos of low lights found a lot of noise. Details were found in the ultra wide angle camera but the photo was just worth using. The photo in the Night Vision mode became bright but in some parts the noise had increased.
The details in the photo taken from the front camera were good. The camera photo was overseasposing the photo background in the light coming from behind in selfie. Portrait shots did not come well every time because the camera was missing several times in the blur level. The selfie taken in the night was less than the average quality.

Moto G22 can shoot 1080p and 720p videos in 30fps. In the daylight, the video was recorded simple and the details were low. Grains were also seen in sufficient light and lack of stabilization. The video captured in low-light found a lot of noise. You can record videos with ultravide camera but do not switch to another camera during recording.
conclusion
Moto G22 draws a little attention from its quad camera and design. The promise of its Near Stock Android Experience and security updates for three years makes it separate from the other devices of this price segment. The 5,000mAh battery is quite useful and the 20W charger on it is like a bonus. The 90Hz refresh rate and Android 12 are also its positive points.
Unfortunately, all these features are unable to compensate for its performance. Moto G22 does not give smooth experience in everyday use, the phone seems to be stuck in the basic task. If the company focused on giving more smooth Android experience instead of giving a quad camera in it, this device could have been a recommendable phone in this price segment.
If you want something in its option, then Realme C31 and Redmi 10 prime are good options. If clean software is your priority, then you can also look at Nokia G21.
