Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G: Price in India
Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G has been launched in only one variant – 8GB RAM and 512GB storage, priced at Rs 29,999. It has been introduced in Dark Velkin (Black) and Serenity Blue color options, of which we had a latter variant for review.
Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G: Design & Display
At first glance in terms of design, Camon 20 Premier can attract many people. It includes a unique camera island, out of the trend, which comes with a gloss black finish. Equipped with a small ring surrounded by two large camera rings and LEDs, this island is placed on top of the back panel with a hard rubberized material equipped with a textile similar to the Vegan Leather. Paster style blue color gives a fairly good look. Geometric patterns are made with lines on the panel. Although the look is a personal choice, but I found the design of Camon 20 Premier unique and attractive.

Not only the look, Tecno has given it a boxy design to improve overall feel, it was easy to grip the phone with flat displays and frames and it does not even slip away from hand due to the textile panel. At the same time, material fingerprints do not catch a rubber similar. The frame is made up of polycarbonate, including volume rockers and power and lock/unlock button on the right. Below is a speaker grill, SIM tray and primary microphone with the Type-C port and the secondary speakers and microphones are included for stereo output and noys cancellations above. It was easy to reach volume and power button during one hand use. The phone was definitely overweight with 202.5 grams, but the phone did not feel much heavy in everyday use. Here Tecno has done well to share weight.
The Camon 20 Premier provides a 6.67-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display, which supports a refresh rate up to 120Hz. There are thin and almost uniform bezels around the display, which works to improve content viewing experience. The display in the indoor was quite bright, but there was difficulty in reading text several times when there was a direct sunlight on the display in the outdoor. However, it produces quite sharp and vivid color. The phone comes with HDR10+ playback certification, but during the review I found that the video was streams with the video HDR on the YouTube app, but the Netflix app was not detecting it. Stereo speakers are available in the phone, but these were little loud than my expectation. However, they will not enjoy watching movies in a small room.
The fingerprint sensor is placed under the display, which was sharp and accurate. However, it has been fitted significantly below, which often makes it a little uncomfortable to reach it while using one hand phone. The display supports refresh rates up to 120Hz. Tecno has a total of four options here, in which the refresh rate can be set on 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz and Auto-SWITCH. The refresh rate keeps changing automatically according to the content on the screen in the auto-switch. Display performance was quite smooth during my use. The refresh rate in auto-switch mode was switching between 60 and 120Hz.
Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G: Specifications and Software
Tecno has given octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 8050 SoC in Camon 20 Premier, with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage. During the review, my unit was running on HIOS 13 based on Android 13 and the Android Security update version was July 2023, which was old as of September. I did not receive the latest security update until the review was written.

Tecno with Android 13 has improved HiOS’s software experience. However, you still get plenty of blotware in the first boot. Most of these apps can be uninstall and some disabled. The good thing was that during my use, native apps gave me only one or two notifications a day.
There are many customization options in the software. I personally liked some of its features, one of which was the option to blur an app in the Risant App Screen. In addition, the smart panel popping from the side of the screen is also a good ed-on, which gives you the required features and shortcuts of apps and the apps opened from here open in small multi-windows. The peak proof only shows the part that you select and blackout the rest.
The phone includes features such as NFC, wired FM, AI subtitle (which generates live subtitles during call or streaming) and PC Connection for easy PC connections.
Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G: Performance and Battery Life
Camon 20 Premier has Dimensity 8050 SoC, which was launched in May this year. Camon 20 Premier was the first phone to come with this chipset. The new chipset is built on 6Nm process and is a competent chipset, from the daily task to the graphics demanding games. Whether to switch between apps or scroll on social media, everyday tasks, this chipset handled everything comfortably. Even graphics demanding games ran very comfortably in default settings. BGMI ‘Ultra’ framrat and ‘HDR’ graphics also ran like butter without lag and frame drop. At the same time, there was no problem in playing titles like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty: Mobile.

The phone scored 7,25,792 scores in AnuTu and 1118 and 3322 points respectively in Geekbench’s single and multi-core tests. At the same time, in GFXBench’s T-Rex, Manhattan 3.1 and Car Chase Test, the phone got 120 FPS, 75 FPS, 40 FPS score respectively. All these scores were slightly less than other contestants in the price range. But still, I did not complain about the performance of this phone in everyday tasks.
Camon 20 Premier’s battery life was quite good. This smartphone with a 5,000mAh battery got one to one and a half hours of gaming, a few hours of calling and the rest of the time even after using social media apps, a day’s backup was found very comfortably. If you reduce the use of social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, then the battery of this phone can last for one and a half days. In our HD video loop test, the phone supported for 18 hours and 25 minutes, which was a good backup.
The smartphone supports 45W fast charging and the good thing is that there is also a 45W charging adapter in the box. With the help of this charger, Camon 20 Premier was 0-40 percent in 30 minutes and full charge in 1 hour 20 minutes.
Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G: Cameras
Camon 20 Premier 5G camera setup will not look less than a flagship smartphone on the pages. The smartphone comes with a triple camera unit, with a 50-megapixel primary sensor with sensor-shift stabilization. Let me remind you that the sensor shift technology was still available in India only on iPhones. Not only this, there is another USP 108-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera of the camera unit. The third camera has a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 32-megapixel sensor with a dual LED flash hidden under the bezel in the front.

If I start with the camera app, here Tecno has greatly improved the camera app with HIOS 13. The app is quite simple and quite easy to navigate. Even in the processing of shots, I did not feel any kind of delight or leg. There are also some special modes, such as a sky shop, which allows you to change the sky in the scene in real-time, as well as an Ar short, which turns you into an avatar. Apart from this, there are also pro mode and dual video mode.
Often I start with a primary camera, but here I am starting with a special 108MP sensor of Camon 20 Premier. In the daylight, the sensor performs good performance, colors come up and also show good contrast levels in the photo. There was no shortage of sharpness in the pictures and at the same time the dynamic range also worked well in all the shots. However, almost all shots put color and concentra on the edges washed. The app also gives a 108MP mode, which gives you a picture at full resolution without pixel binning and it worked as per my expectation. There were plenty of details in the photographs in this mode and there was no shortage in color, contrast and sharpness. I have to say that the wide-angle sensor of Camon 20 Premier performed far more than its primary sensor.

Talking about its 50-megapixel primary camera, it did not disappoint me in the day light, but there were no similar results in the pictures here. Some shots were about to upload directly on social media, but some shots for the same place were lacking the accuracy of details and exposure. In addition, the red color in several shots became over saturated after processing. However, other colors were kept natural by the camera. Shots taken from the main camera did not lack details and sharpness and at the same time the dynamic range was also good.

At the same time, with the low light, the camera performance also started declining. In low-light, primary and ultra-wide angle camera photos draw good, but here I saw a huge decline in details. Due to the sensor shift OIS, the night mode works well and does the work of improving the ‘Super Night Mode’ shots in the app. However, here was not the performance consistent and the photos in some shots were overseasposed and sharpning also became more.

There are many smartphones in this price range, which give the best rear camera performance, but the performance of their selfie camera is a bit disappointing. However, Camon 20 Premier can give you some great selfie in your segment. Each shots taken by me in the delite were natural and overall selfies were colors as well as sharpness and dynamic range. At the same time, the results were also good in portrait mode, the camera recognizes the edges of the subject well and the Boke Effect also came very natural. At the same time, there is a lack of sharpness in pictures in low-light. Camon 20 Premier has dual flash, which works to add extra exposure to the photographs in low light.

Camon 20 Premier 5G rear primary camera can shoot up to 4K videos at 30fps. Activate the sensor-shift is set to the resolution of 1080p, which is a bit strange, as I expected to be used at 4K of this feature. Nevertheless, even without a sensor shift, the primary camera recorded a large extent stable videos.
Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G: Verdict
Based on the specifications available at your price Tecno Camon 20 Premier Reaches very close to becoming an all-rounder. The smartphone comes out of the trend to a unique and attractive design. Camera setup equipped with sensor shift OIS can give you good shots by removing good shots. Also, long battery life with stereo speakers and bright displays make it a good multimedia device.
If you want an attractive design and good camera performance at a price less than 30 thousand, you can go with Camon 20 Premier. If performance and smooth software experience is your first choice, then you Motorola Edge 40 And Nothing Phone 1 But you can also consider.
